Website of the National Human Rights Committee won the Golden Award under International Organization Category in the 11th Pan Arab Excellence Awards Competition.
Out of a large number of nominations and registrations, 325 entries have been shortlisted. Afterwards, a group of jury has evaluated these websites based on selected criteria in which winners were chosen and communicated respectively for approval for ONE entitled award, where grading has been applied according to specified criteria standards.
A Prestigious Ceremony has been held in Dubai , United Arab Emirates and attended by Ambassadors, winners of the competition in addition to VIPs from the ICT field, governmental personalities as well as Economists, Academics, Diplomats, Bankers, Media and Press and other Guests from the Arab Region.
Ms. Maryam Al-Attiyah stated that this award acts as an incentive to improve the technical work of the committee in terms of developing electronic media and means of social communication in the process of spreading the culture of human rights. She added that websites and social networking media become reliable sources of news; and confirmed that the committee will work hard to make use of all the available means in order to achieve its humanitarian mission and objectives relating to full realization of human dignity and pride.

Mr. Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, head of Public Relations and Media unit at the National Human Rights Committee stated that the NHRC website achieved one of the conditions for the establishment of the Committee, that is transparency in which the NHRC field studies and annual reports are published in addition to the NHRC news with accuracy and credibility.
Al-Mahmoud referred in his speech to the establishment of the NHRC by Decree Law No. (38) for the year 2002 is the guarantee to save the real human rights and its reorganization by Decree Law No. (17) for the year 2010 in which it has been granted full independence.
Al-Mahmoud also added that the NHRC was accredited status (A) by the International Coordinating Committee (ICC) of national human rights institutions, in which Dr. Ali Al Marri chairs the Sub-committee on Accreditation of international Coordinating Committee which is concerned with classification and accreditation of national institutions, he also referred to objectives of the NHRC.
It is worth mentioning that Pan Arab Web Awards is an encouragement for all sectors to showcase their websites and be more involved in the IT. Dr. Ali Bin Samikh Al-Marri, the Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee met on Tuesday with Dr. Nabil Al-Arabi, the chairman of the Permanent Arab Committee on Human Rights of the Arab League at the Arab league’s headquarters in Cairo.

The meeting discussed means of developing mechanisms of joint Arab work in order to enhance and spread the culture of human rights and exchange expertise and experiences among human rights organizations.

Ms. Maryam Al-Attiyah, Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Committee announced the winners for the third season of the “Award of the martyr Ali Hassan Al Jabir” in the 3 categories. The ceremony will be on Sunday at Ritz Carlton Hotel at 07:30 in the evening in the presence of dignitary guests, government officials, representatives of civil society organizations and journalists.
Contestants competed in three categories, namely: press photos, press releases and short documentary films. after extensive meetings, the board of Trustees declared the winners for this year: for the press release category, the Egyptian journalist Mohamed Saeed, for the category of documentary film, Hafsa Aubl from Yemen and the third winner for the category of the press photo is the Syrian journalist Mohamed Ghassan Al Jirwidi. The amount of the award  is worth 15.000 U.S. dollars; Each winner will be honored and given 5000 USD as well as the award shield. After distributing the prizes, a group of journalists cooperating with the NHRC in deploying and establishing the culture of human rights will be honored.

Al-Attiyah stated that the selection of the winners was based on terms, guidelines and conditions approved in the statute of the award by the Board of Trustees. She commended the role of the Board of Trustees and the technical team in raising the stature of the awards through the last years who seeks to develop to be international in the coming seasons.

The National Human Rights Committee, the organizer of the competition in memory of the martyr Ali Hassan Al Jabir, has limited the award in the first year on one work only so that the candidate should have provided significant and distinctive contributions through his/her work in the detection of crimes or serious violations committed against a people, and should have contributed to the prevention of such crimes and violations and revealed them to the public opinion. It is worth mentioning that the Palestinian photographer Mohammed Othman won the award in the first season, he is a victim to Israeli violence aimed at preventing him from reporting events in Gaza through his camera. In the second year, the award has been divided into three categories, in the category of the press photo, the winner was Khalil Abu Hamra from Egypt, in the category of the press release, the winner was Eidi Al Menifi from Yemen and in the documentary film category, the winner was Media Town Company.

The Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) of the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC) has re-elected Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, Chairman of Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) as President of the Committee for the third time.

Dr. Al Marri said on this occasion: “The re-election for this position renews confidence in Qatar National Human Rights Committee, and the confirmation of the credibility and independence the (NHRC) enjoys and an indicator of the great support being provided by the state to committee in all matters relating to human rights at local, regional and international levels.”
It is worth mentioning that the Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) currently comprises 107 sub-national institutions for human rights worldwide as well as four representatives from five continents where the State of Qatar represents the Asian continent, Mauritania represents Africa, Germany represents the European continent, and Canada represents the Americas.
It is to be noted that Qatar National Human Rights Committee also currently chairs the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF).

The NHRC concluded the training course on human rights protection mechanisms that was held at the headquarters of the NHRC in collaboration with the Information and Training Center for Human Rights HRITC over five days; it targeted thirty human rights activists from a number of Arab countries. The course included sessions on “concepts and problems” in the principles of human rights, the Paris principles on creating national institutions for Human Rights, the International Bill of Human Rights, and civil, political and economic rights, and social and cultural development.
Sheikha al Jawhara Al Thani, the Director of Programs and Education department stated that the training course focused on regional protection mechanisms, regional conventions of human rights, regional protection mechanisms, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (United Nations Convention against Torture), international humanitarian law, international criminal court mechanisms and their role in the promotion of the human rights system, the Convention rights of the Child, and the Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination against Women “CEDAW”.

Mr. Hameed Khalid, representative of Human Rights Information and Training Center stated that the training course gave priorities to the future human rights movements and the culture of awareness of human rights rights; he also praised the efforts and interaction of the participants in the training sessions, and added that such courses are only the beginning of more specialized courses on creating competent defenders and activists in the Arab region in the field of human rights.

The National Human Rights Committee launched its new website in a ceremony held at the Four Seasons Hotel Special in the presence of representatives of state institutions and civil society organizations; the NHRC also honored a group of lawyers cooperating with the Committee.

Mr. Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, head of Media and Public Relations unit stated that the new website is designed to be used by all age groups. He pointed out that the new website includes many sections, i.e. the NHRC news, online section for submitting complaints and petitions, kids’ corner, annual reports and the international cooperation section.
The NHRC honored a group of lawyers who have given their efforts and time to cooperate with the NHRC in helping complainers to get their rights.

The NHRC welcomes the initiatives of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Committee

Dr. Ali Al-Marri, the Chairman of the Committee of the NHRC claimed that a committee was formed to discuss sponsorship law where the NHRC role is confined to emphasizing international human rights standards and demanding the application of these standards. About amending the labor law, there should be criminalization for non-payment of salaries of workers, Al Marri said on the sidelines of the opening of the gym, which was held in the NHRC building to serve the NHRC employees. He added, There are number of initiatives by the 2022 FIFA World Cup Committee relating to workers with respect to wages, housing, working hours … etc.

These standards require time to be implemented, pointing out that the NHRC welcomes these positive steps taken by the State in the field of human rights to implement these initiatives adding that the state has a serious intention to implement these steps.

On the other hand, Al Marri explained that Celebrating the Sport Day  reflects the state’s interest in sports, athletes and the right to health. We celebrated the sports Today and translated this celebration into action through launching the NHRC gym which includes the latest sports equipment for men and two for women at certain times of the day, either before or after work under the supervision of a specialist coach. The NHRC plays a major role in focusing on awareness programs to health in collaboration with several of state institutions and ministries.

It is worth mentioning that the Qatari player Khalfan Ibrahim Khalfan Al Khalfan, midfielder for Al Saad team, participated in the opening the NHRC gym and Dr. Ali Al-Marri gave him the NHRC Shield in recognition of his sporting and human rights related efforts.
