Doha: (QNA-30/4/2008): The training session on human rights jointly organized by the National Human Rights Committee and the Department of Training and Human Resources Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the title «promotion and protection of human rights» concluded at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.
The session «held at the headquarters of the Department of Training and Human Resources Development in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which was attended by a group of ministry employees, came in line with NHRC’s pivotal role in promoting and protecting human rights in all segments of society. The session was also held within the on-going cooperation between NHRC and the ministries and government bodies in general and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Particular.
The course focused on basic concepts of human rights, particularly in legal terms.
Lecturers at the session included, Dr. Yusof Obaidan, a professor of political science and former dean of the Faculty of Administration and Economics at the University of Qatar who is also a member of NHRC as well as and Dr. Taher Bo-jalal, of the Qatar Authority for Charitable Activities, and Messrs. Mohammed Fouad Jadallah and Adel El Safety legal advisers with NHRC. Dr. Tarawneh Mukhallad professor of international law University of Qatar also lectured at the session.
At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Obaidan presented attendance certificates to foreign ministry officials attending the training session.
In other news, NHRC is organizing a 2-day forum on "Current Political and Legal Forms of Communication in the Arab World’ due to begin on 11th May Among the speakers at the forum will be Dr. Ali Bin Smaikh Al-Marri, NHRC Secretary-General and Dr. Kamal Menoufi head of the Democracy and Human Rights Programme at the University of Cairo
