Doha: NHRC: 4/5/2009: NHRC has organized a 5-day training session to define basic human rights for the benefit of law enforcers. Participants included concerned staff from the ministries of interior, Justice, Labour & Trade, The Supreme Council for Economic & Investment Affairs.
On the first day of the session, Sunday 3/5/2009, the participants discussed 4 working papers" the first two "Human Rights-Definitions and Terminology"; and, "International law and the United Nations: were presented by councilor Mohammad Jdallah of the NHRC; the third and fourth working papers: "The United Nations and Human Rights"; and, "Universal Declaration of Human Rights", were presented by Dr. Mohammad al-Tarawneh, Professor of Law at the University of Qatar
Participants in the remaining four days will discuss a number of basic concepts of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the Convention against genocide and other topics.
The program of the session comes in the framework of the Committee’s set policy of not only keeping pace with new developments in the field of Human Rights concepts but of taking part in adding and developing such new additions. The program also aims at supporting state efforts to meet its obligations in the field in-service training of law enforcers.
