Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, Chairman of the NHRC, was nominated by the Asia Pacific forum as its deputy chairperson during the annual meeting of the 20th Conference held in Mongolia, in December 2015, in which the National Human Rights Committee of Mongolia assumed presidency of the APF, replacing the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar; and Jordan assumed presidency of the ICC.
The meeting acknowledged that Afghanistan shall be the host country for the 22nd annual APF meeting in 2017. Mongolia also was nominated as the presidency of the Working Group on business and human rights. The meeting approved the APF strategic plan for the period from 2015 until 2020, which address discrimination and other human rights violations suffered by some of the most vulnerable groups in the region, including women, children, indigenous peoples, and persons with disabilities, the elderly, immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
It is worth mentioning that The NHRC chaired the Asia-Pacific Forum during the year 2013 and for two years, in which it hosted the 18th annual meeting of the APF, while it chaired the SCA of the ICC for a period of 3 years.
