Cairo: (QNA: 8/8/2009): The Human Rights Directorate at the Arab League has praised Qatar pioneering efforts in protecting human rights, noting that these efforts have enhanced Qatar keenness to join the regional and international human rights organisations.
These efforts would support the Arab region’s issues at the international arenas, said Ambassador Mahmoud Rashid Ghalib, Director of the Human Rights Directorate at the Arab League.
Ghalib hailed Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) for receiving a full membership at the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC) and Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions in the 14th Annual Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF), held recently in Amman.
Joining such regional and international rights bodies reflects Qatar’s interest in the protection of human rights and growing activities being made by the Qatar National Committee for Human rights through spreading awareness about human rights culture as general, he said.
Ghalib said any Arab national commission working in the fields of human rights would support the Arab issues.
Earlier, in a statement Chairman of the NHRC, Dr Ali bin Smaikh Al Merri said the two new memberships will help the committee to be more involved in activities of the international institutions concerned with human rights.
