UNITED NATIONS: 15/10/2011:  – European members of the U.N. Security Council clashed with Russia and China yesterday by raising concerns about Syria and the looming spectre of civil war.

The French, British, German and Portuguese envoys supported a statement issued yesterday by U.N. human rights Chief Navi Pillay, who called for international protection of civilians in Syria and warned of a possible civil war.

Syrian forces shot dead at least six people protesting against President Bashar al-Assad yesterday, activists said, 10 days after Russia and China joined forces on a rare "double veto" to kill a European-drafted Security Council resolution that would have condemned Syria and hinted at possible future sanctions.

NHRC, DOHA, 18TH SEP 2011: HHRC has acquired the membership of the Acriditation  Committee, an ICC subcommitteethat would authorize  NHRC to second  NHRIs  to  ICC membership. The decision was taken on the sidelines of The 16thAnnual Meeting and Biennial Conference of the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) that  took place in Bangkok, Thailand from 6 – 8 September.

Doha: (NHRC:8/9/2011): H.E. NHRC Chairman, Dr. Ali Bin Smaikh al-Marry received at his office at NHRC HQ, at Freij Abdulaziz, Indian ambassador extra-ordinary Mrs. Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa on Thursday to discuss further boostingbilateral relations betweeen the two countries in the Human Rights domain.

Discussions during the meeting took up human rights issues in Qatar and ways and means of promoting human right cooperation  and culture.

Doha, September 07(SHARQ DAILY): NHRC Chairman, H.E. Dr Ali Bin Smaikh Al-Marry has welcomed the Emiri decision issued by HH the Deputy Emir and Heirapparent, SH Tamim Ben Hamad Al-Thani on the increase of basic salary, social allowance and pensions for employees and retirees of Qatari civilians and military personnel, working in the state describing it as coming in conformity with the wise leadership’s standing policy of promoting Human Rights in the country through providing decent living to Qatari citizens in light of the economic boom the country is witnessing at present.

In an exclusive interview with the Arabic daily ‘al-Sharq", Dr. Marry said such enlighted decisions are typical of the country’s wise leadership that is always focusing on ensuring their citizens’ best welfare and decent living; it is also heartening to see that the wise leadership were equally mindful of  the pensioners who form a sizable section of society.

Doha: Sharq newspaper: 4/7/2011: NHRC and Mauritanian counterpart yesterday signed MoU aimed at protecting and promoting Human Rights and exchange of expertise in the fields of human rights on all levels in the context of the UN charter in the field of promoting and respecting human rights and basic freedoms.

The MoU signed on the Qatari side by H.E. NHRC Chairman, Dr. Ali Bin Smaikh al-Marry and on the Mauritanian side by his Mauritanian counterpart, Ba-Mariam Kwita, comes in the context of NHRC’s commitment to its obligations as to cooperation with international, regional and national Human Rights organizations and bodies as spelled out in the Emiri decree establishing it in 2002.
