Doha: Qana: 20/10/2010: Qatar’s Islamic Cultural Centre (FANAR) and NHRC signed a contract 19th October 2010 to publish a book in Arabic and English on Human Rights in Islam. The contract was signed by NHRC secretary general, Her Excellency, Maryam Bint Abdallah al-Attiyah who was accompanied on the occasion by a delegation comprising: Abdallah al-Mahmoud, head of NHRC public relations unit and Mz Rania Fuad Jadallah and an NHRC legal advisor.
On the Fanar side, the contract was signed by Mr. Mohammad al-Ghamidy, Director of the Centre.
Cairo: Qana: 18/10/2010: NHRC Chairman Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Marri, also Chairman of the Committee of Arab experts on the human rights emanating from the Standing Committee of the Arab human rights, has said that NHRC activities have exceeded its surroundings and is now directly involved in the promotion, protection of and the dissemination of awareness of human rights culture in the regional and Arab domains.

Doha: (NHRC: 3-4/10/2010): The Workshop on "Protection of Prisoners and Persons Deprived of their Liberty" concluded it deliberation this afternoon: (Monday: 4/10/10) in the Diplomatic Club. The Workshop was jointly organized by NHRC and "Association for the Prevention of Torture-APT" in Geneva.
At the end of the session, certificates of participation in the Workshop were presented to participants by Mr. Sultan Jamali, NHRC head of the administrative and financial Affairs, Mr. Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, and NHRC head of public relations and, Ms. Esther Schaufelberger from the APT.Read More
Casablanca, October 13 (QNA) – A two-day Arab and Ibero-American meeting for national institutions in charge of protecting human rights was concluded here with a number of recommendations. The recommendations include forming a coordination and follow-up committee with members from Qatar, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Mexico and Ecuador.
Addressing the event, Chairman of Qatar National Human Rights Committee Dr Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri said the meeting provided a real opportunity to build bridge of contacts in the field of human rights in the two regions, although they are far away geographically, but they possess in common what could be a start for cooperative relations with a positive impact on human rights.Read More
Doha: (QNA): 7/10/2010: HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani issued yesterday an Emiri Decision No. 30 of 2010 forming the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC).
The decision stipulated that the committee is to be made up of the following members:
Dr Ali bin Saeed Smeikh al-Marri representing the civil society; Dr Yosuf Mohamed Obaidan Fakhro representing the civil society; Dr Norah Khalifa Turki al-Subei representing the civil society; Issa Rashid al-Kaabi representing the civil society; Dr Mohamed Saif al-Kuwari representing the civil society; Engineer Abdullah Hussein al-Neima representing the civil society; Fawaz Bakhit al-Jettal representing the civil society; Dr Asma Abdullah Mohamed al-Attiyah representing the civil society; Amal Abdul Latif al-Mannai representing the civil society; Sheikh Khalid bin Jassim al-Thani representing the Ministry of the Interior ; Lt. Col. Abdullah Saqr al-Muhannadi representing the Ministry of the Interior; Abdullah Ahmed al-Muhannadi representing Ministry of Labour; Sultan Dhaher al-Mureikhi representing Ministry of Social Affairs; Noor Abdullah al-Malki representing the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
The committee shall select its chairman and vice-chairman from among its members representing the civil society

The Committee has Seven Main Objectives:
To uphold and promote the human rights in the International Treaties which the State of Qatar has acceded to, (such as the Convention Against Torture, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ILO Conventions 100, 105, 182, etc…)

The APT has been leading the international campaign for the adoption, entry into force and effective implementation of the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention against Torture (OPCAT), an international legal instrument which seeks to open all places of detention to international and national scrutiny.Read More
