Doha: (Gulf Times: 16/3/2010): As part of a newly-launched partnership, the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in association with the Le Mediateur De La Republic institution, yesterday started a course on human rights for participants from local NGOs and government departments.

Le Mediateur De La Republic is an institution which has been devoted — since its creation in 1973 — to improving relations between the French government and the citizens as well as examining the inappropriateness of certain legislations, procedures or their interpretation.

The course aims to introduce the social mediation concept and techniques to members of the Qatari NGOs and to highlight the civil society role in human rights protection, a spokesman at the NHRC said.

Doha(NHRC: 8/3/2010) The 5th Euro-Arab Human Rights  Dialogue  Conference on Women Rights jointly hosted and organized by NHRC, the Danish Institute for Human Rights and National Center for Human Rights, Jordan, opened at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha this morning, (8/3/2010). Participants include prominent Human Rights decision-makers and activists. The conference focuses, as explained by H.E. NHRC Chairman, Dr. Ali Ben Smaikh al-Marry, in his opening speech, on one of the most important, sensitive and noble   human rights issues-Women Rights. Mr. Marry added that, the conference also coincides with the anniversary of the centenary of International Women’s Day and with the thirtieth anniversary of the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the fifteenth anniversary of Beijing Platform for Action. 

 In his speech, H.E. also said that the conference which started  as a Jordanian initiative in 2007 serves as a podium for dialogue  that aims at creating a euro-Arab partnership based on fruitful and positive cooperation between the two cultures rich in expertise, experience that contributed generously in building human civilization for centuries past and present. 

 H.E. also stressed that the two sides are in earnest seeking to enrich, consolidate and promote international cooperation as a means to achieving both regional and global stability, peace, justice and development.

Doha: (NHRC: 1/3/2010):   NHRC Monday (8/3/2010) will host  the 3-day 5th Euro-Arab dialogue Conference which is jointly organized by the NHRC in cooperation with the Danish Institute for Human Rights and National Center for Human Rights of the Kingdom of Jordan and the Advisory Council for Human Rights of the Kingdom of Morocco. 

 Carrying the report, “al-Sharq” Qatari daily this morning reported that the conference sessions will begin with a session on the integration of Euro-Arab  dialogue  in as far as coordination with international and regional organizations are concerned; at the first working session the conference with take up the situation of women rights by reviewing national practice in the light of equal gender rights; a special session will also be held on the status or women in the legal and system and profession-a number of international lady experts will present a brief summary about the status of women in the legal systems; an additional session will deal with an analytical presentation about women rights in the Arab world in current legislations and practice with a special focus on how far gender equality is observed.   

 
Five Arab countries will present a preview of the results achieved in the field of confronting negative national legislation and practice; on behalf of Qatar Ms. Nur al-Malki, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, will present a paper in this regard.

Doha, 22 February Ritz Carlton: Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Misnid – wife of His Highness the Emir, SH Hamad Ben Khalifa al-Thani,  this morning, Monday, 22.2.2010,  honoured with her presence the Forum organized by the National  Human Rights Committee (NHRC) at the Ritz-Carlton to discuss a draft document of the Universal Declaration of human dignity.

The opening session was addressed by former High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations, Dr Mary Robinson, former Lebanese Prime Minister,  Dr. Salim Al Hoss, Her Excellency Dr. / Huda Ali Abdul Latif Alban, Human Rights Minister of the Republic of Yemen, and finally His Excellency, NHRC Chairman,  Dr. Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri.

Dr. Robinson spoke about the history of her participation at the official level in the promotion of the international human rights movement and the contributions of a number of attendees at the forum in the same area. She highlighted the goal of the meeting, which is to prepare an agenda of international human rights the international community can adopt during the next decade

Doha on February 18 agencies / AT  a news conference held at NHRC HQ yesterday  (Wednesday, 17.2.2010) His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri-NHRC Chairman announced that NHRC will hold on twenty-second of February a forum on the draft document of (the Universal Declaration of human dignity).

 The  Chairman also  announced that Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al – wife of His Highness the Emir of Qatar – will sponsor  the seminar. The Chairman meanwhile  revealed that the NHRC in conducting two studies: one on the  "stateless" residents in Qatar and the other  on the "rights of the Children of Qatari ladies born to non-Qataries and how these children can get rights equal to those of ordinary citizens particularly with regard to education, health, housing and employment.

Doha, February 04 (QNA) – National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) will hold at the Doha Four Seasons Hotel on February 22 the Special Forum on the draft of the Universal Declaration of Human Dignity.

The forum will discuss a number of issues related to the declaration and lead an open discussion in this regard.

NHRC Chairman Dr. Ali Semaikh Al Marri will deliver the opening address. Former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson will also address the opening session. (QNA)

Geneva, February 08 (QNA) –  H.E. the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs  Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud here on Monday reviewed before the Working Group on Human Rights Council  the  human rights situation  in the State of  Qatar in all fields. 

H.E the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in his speech underlined the importance attached by the State of Qatar to the promotion and protection of human rights as a strategic choice. 

The human rights issue constitutes the backbone of the comprehensive reform policy / constitutional, economic, social, and cultural / pursued by state since His Highness the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani assumed the rule in the State. 

H.E. the Minister said this has been emphasized in the comprehensive vision of development (Qatar National Vision 2030), which has been approved by the Emiri decision No.  (44) of 2008, which involved the major topics affecting the core issues of human rights in the fields of education, health, the environment and the rights of migrant workers and women empowerment and the Child rights.

H.E the Minister said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for leading the process of preparing the national report with the participation of relevant ministries and with the assistance of civil society.

Doha – (agencies: 5/2/2010): His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Marri, NHRC chairman yesterday (Wednesday: 4/2/20/20190), received Mr Abdullah Sohrabi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran – The meeting discussed issues related to the field of human rights at the regional and local levels, and ways of cooperation between the two countries in the promotion and protection of human rights in the Islamic world. Coordination in the aspects of cooperation concerning the dissemination of awareness and education were also taken up.

His Excellency Ambassador Abdullah Sohrabi the Commissioner on Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed willingness to cooperate with the NHRC… The meeting was attended by Mr. Jaber Bin Saleh Ahoil NHRC Director of the Legal Department, Mr. Ali Reza Mujab – World Affairs attaché at the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran.

Doha – (agencies: 5/2/2010):: His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri- NHRC Chairman, and Her Excellency Sheikha Hessa bint Hamad Al Thani – SCFA Chairman signed a Memorandum of Understanding – Thursday (5 / 2 / 2010) – aimed at jointly drawing a work plan to organize a number of training programs, workshops and seminars on the provisions of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The objectives of memorandum fall within the concept of raising awareness in line with the provisions of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and persons with disabilities such as providing training for personnel in agencies concerned with women and persons with disabilities, and conducting training programs, workshops and seminars to raise awareness of the rights of women and persons with disabilities.

Doha: (NHRC: 2/2/2010): Her Excellency NHRC Secretary-General Ms. Maryam Bint Abdullah al-Attiyah yesterday received at the headquarters of the Committee, Mr. Yacoub El Hillo the UNHCR GULF  Regional Representative for Refugees.  

They discussed issues related to Human Rights and Refugees issues  at the regional and local levels and ways of cooperation between NHRC and the office of the  United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and how to coordinate aspects of cooperation concerning the dissemination of awareness and education and particularly organizing educational courses and seminars.

The meeting was attended by Mohammed Beleidi Legal Adviser to NHRC President and Hamdi Bukhari, Deputy Regional Representative of the States of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
