Doha: (NHRC 21/10/2009): NHRC’s Media and Public Relations Unit held a press conference at NHRC HQ Tuesday morning.
 
At the beginning the head of the unit Mr. Abdullah Ali Al Mahmoud reviewed NHRC activities on human rights awareness in the community on several levels confirming views Her Excellency NHRC Secretary General, Mz. Maryam bint Abdullah al-Attiyah underlined in a speech in Mesaieed on Monday on the Commission’s intention to issue a "code of conduct for social committement". 

 
Launching a series of awareness workshops, which aimed at promoting human rights culture among management and staff of various companies at Mesaieed Industrial City,  Her Excellency said that NHRC is working in earnest to establish a key partnership with industrial and commercial firms in the country to ensure respect for Human Rights in the Workplace. 
 
Mr. Al-Mahmoud then gave the floor to NHRC Chairman, Yousof Obaidan to further build on the subject summed up by Her Excellency at Mesaieed.

Doha: (Agencies:  Qatar, 13 October 2009):  The Doha Workshop on “Social Development: A new prospective on Human Security in the BMENA Region” (Borader Middle East & North Africa countries), which was organized by the Arab Democracy Foundation (ADF) and No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ), in cooperation with the Qatari National Human Rights Commission and the co-chairs of the 2009 Forum for the Future, concluded today with the adoption of a set of conclusions emphasizing that Human Security and Human Development are fundamental guiding principles of domestic and international government policies, and that civil society actors are legitimate participants of dialogue together with Governments in their implementation process. 

The meeting was part of a series of initiatives organized in preparation for the 2009 Forum for the Future, under the Italian and Moroccan co-presidency, aimed at ensuring that the Sixth Ministerial Meeting discussions and outcomes are the result of a process of continuous interaction between and among Governments and civil society of the BMENA Region, G8 and other democratic partners.

Doha: (NHRC 12/10/2009): The activities of the conference on human and political security in the Arab world opened at the Ritz Carlton Hotel this morning (Monday: 12/10/2009). The function is jointly organized by The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), in association with the Doha-based Arab Democracy Foundation, the No Peace without Justice Organization (NPWJ) and the Arab Assistance Dialogue Group (DAD Partnership.)  

The opening speech at the forum was delivered by H.E.
Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Rumaihi, Assistant Foreign Minister who stressed that the importance of the relationship between human security and development  has increased and taken a prominent place on the international scene at the present-day adding that the contemporary international realities witnessed a significant development of the concept of human security heading to a departure from the traditional approach of focusing on the security of the State without paying due attention to human security.  The two sides are now viewed as indivisible, H.E. said. 

 
 The opening session was also addressed by their excellencies, Dr. Ali Ben Smaikh al-Marry, NHRC president, Dr. Muhsin Marzouk, the Secretary General of the Arab Democracy Foundation, representative of the Italian government, Antonilla Unido and Dr. Niccola Figan Talamanca of the organization of “No Peace without Justice”.

Doha: (Agencies: 7/10/2009): The National Human Rights Committee, in association with the Doha-based Arab Democracy Foundation, the No Peace without Justice Organization (NPWJ) and the Arab Assistance Dialogue Group (DAD Partnership), will be organizing a workshop on human and political security in the Arab world on October 12 and 13, it was announced yesterday.

The workshop, which comes as part of the preparations for the sixth edition of the Forum for the Future in 2009 which will be hosted by Morocco on November 2 and 3, will focus on the social development in the Arab states, with a particular reference to the 2009 Arab Human Development report.

Addressing a press conference held at the National Human Rights Committee, the NHRC chairman, Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri, said that the workshop will be seeking a new vision for social development in the Arab world and feature discussions about political, social and human security in the region.

Some 60 experts who represent NGOs from different countries will be participating in the workshop along with senior officials from Qatari, Italian, Moroccan, Egyptian governments.

The Arab Democracy Foundation secretary general, Mushin Marzooq, said the workshop will be submitting its recommendations on sustainable development in the Arab world to the sixth edition of the Forum for the Future.

Doha: (Agencies: 7/10/2009): In the context of Future Forum 2009 due to convene in Morocco early November, NHRC, the Arab Democracy Foundation, the No Peace without Justice Organization (NPWJ) and the Arab Assistance Dialogue Group (DAD Partnership) are organizing a 2-day conference on ‘Social Development’ in support of a new vision for the concept of Arab Human Security to be held here in Doha Monday-Tuesday. The conference programme is based on the outcome of on a UN report on Arab Human Development 2009, "Challenges to Human Security in Arab countries’. A group of select Arab researchers and government and non-governmental organizations.   NHRC president, Dr. Ali Ben Smaikh al-Merry and the Secretary General of the Arab Democracy Foundation are scheduled to give a press conference on details of the 2-day Doha conference at NHRC head quarters on Wednesday 7/10/2009.

Geneva: 24/9/2009:  Qatar has praised the Yemeni authorities’ positive and constructive stance towards the recommendations by the United Nations on the country’s human rights record.

This came in the speech given by Qatar’s Permanent Delegate to the United Nations Office and Other International Organisations in Geneva Ambassador Abdullah Falah Abdullah Al Doassari during the 12th session of the Human Rights Council on the endorsement of the report of the team concerned with the comprehensive periodic review of Yemen.

He said despite challenges and impediments’ facing the government, Yemen has adopted many national policies and strategies to enhance human rights, adding that Yemen, since the establishment of the unity state in May 1990, witnesses great development in the human rights field with its constitution ensuring all basic liberties.

Doha: (NHRC: 24/8/2009): Her Excellency Acting Secretary-General, Maryam Al-Attiyah, gave a news conference at NHRC HQ on Thursday (20/8/2009) during which Her Excellency reviled that NHRC was launching three major media campaigns, "You have the right", "Citizens and Residents Rights" and "The Human Rights Camp". 

 
The first campaign "You Have the Right", which lasts for the coming three months, is already under way and was opened on the first day of Ramadan, the holy Muslim lunar month of fasting. It targets all people in Qatar, citizens and residents.  In this regard NHRC is launching special programmes through Qatar TV, Radio Gulf Voice and the media centre at the Falgio Trade Complex. 

 
The information campaign "Citizens and Residents Rights" will be launched in October; while "The Human Rights Camp" is to be launched early next year.

Al-Attiyah added that NHRC is currently preparing a bookbinder for children about their right to recreation, leisure and entertainment. In addition, the bookbinder is intended to help children keep in touch with their children’s games heritage. In this context, NHRC will before sunset prayers on the 14th of Ramadan  celebrate on Doha Corniche, in the courtyard of the gun, the "Garangoa" festival- which is believed to have its roots in the pearl-diving tradition of the region. Over the years, the festival has gained more popularity with several expatriates joining the celebrations. On that day, NHRC will give away 3000 Garangao kits.

Doha: (NHRC:17/8/2009): His Excellency, NHRC president, Dr. Ali Ben Smaikh al-Merry on Monday 17/8/2009 received at NHRC HQ, Her Excellency, Indian Ambassador, Mrs. Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa. 

 
Bilateral relations and a number of other topics of mutual interest were taken up during the meeting at the enc of which Dr. al-Merry presented the ambassador with a souvenir gift.

Cairo: (QNA: 8/8/2009):  The Human Rights Directorate at the Arab League has praised Qatar’s pioneering efforts in proteting human rights, noting that these efforts have enhanced Qatar keenness to join the regional and international human rights organisations.

These efforts would support the Arab region’s issues at the international arenas, said Ambassador Mahmoud Rashid Ghalib, Director of the Human Rights Directorate at the Arab League.

Ghalib hailed Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) for receiving a full membership at the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC) and Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions in the 14th Annual Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF), held recently in Amman.

Amman, August 04 (QNA) – Qatar‘s National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) received on Tuesday a full membership at the Asia -Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions and the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC).

Qatar was granted the membership during the 14th annual Asia- Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) hosted by Jordanian National Center for Human Rights (NCHR).
