A forum on the "Right to Psychotherapy-Assessment & Investigation" organized by The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) opened at "The Doha Sharq Hotel" today(Tuesday, 4/9/2007).  The two-day forum will be addressed by an elite group of Arab Psychiatrists who will highlight the current services available to mental patients in the Arab world in light of the potentialities within reach.  

Research papers to be discussed today include one by Dr. Hassan al-Muhannadi of the Development Planning Council who will address the meeting on "Qatar-Present and Future"; another topic to be discussed is Current Psychiatric care in Qatar.  In the meantime, Dr. Amina al-Hail, a Psychiatrist from the Ministry of Education in Qatar will present a paper on Adolescents Psychiatry.

Doha: (NHRC-31/7/2007): H.E. NHRC secretary general, Dr. Ali Samikh al-Marry gave a wide ranging interview to the Qatari Arabic daily "al-Sharq" published on Monday 30/7/2007.  

The interview in which, Dr. Ali gave answers to more than twenty questions was conducted by al-Sharq reporter Wafa Zayid. The questions dealt with a number of issues dealing with NHRC activities, procedures, complaints it receives from both citizens and expatriates-their number and categories.

CAIRO: (Agencies) At the forum on "The Role of Universities in Promoting Human Rights Awareness in Arab Countries", jointly organized by NHRC and The Democracy and Human Rights Programme at Cairo University, NHRC Secretary General, Dr. Ali Said Samikh al-Marri commended the constructive cooperation between the Faculty of Economics and Political Science in Cairo University and the NHRC in realizing NHRC main objectives in consolidating and protecting human rights through promoting public awareness of them.

NHRC & AND THE DEMOCRACY & HUMAN RIGHTS PROGRAMME ORGANIZE CAIRO FORUM

Dr. Yusof ObaidanNHRC and The Democracy and Human Rights Programme of Cairo University have organized a forum on "The Role of Universities in Promoting Human Rights Awareness in Arab Countries."

The forum in Cairo is held 18-19 July 2007. H.E. the NHRC Secretary General, Ali Said Samikh al-Marri will address the opening session; while NHRC member, Dr. Yusof Obaidan will present a working paper about "The Role of Qatar University in Promoting Human Rights Awareness."

Doha • The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has called for strict implementation of the provisions in the new Labour Law regarding safety of the workers, amidst fears that the large number of construction workers in the country risk the danger of being affected by the soaring temperature. A senior NHRC official told The Peninsula yesterday that rights panel had already taken up the issue with the Ministry of Civil Service Affairs and Housing and has been pressing for stricter implementation of the Labour Law.

Doha: Qatar’s state-backed National Human Rights Committee has come down heavily on the sponsorship law and exit permit system and said they violate basic rights of foreign workers.

In a 57-page report officially released yesterday, the Committee said that the abuse of labour rights is on the rise, particularly in the construction sector, and this may tarnish the image of the country.

There is a rising flesh trade in Qatar and women are brought under the guise of aiding them and then they are taken advantage of. Many women are hired by hotels and coffee shops as a cover-up for prostitution. The Peninsula – 03/05/2006
