The NHRC welcomes the initiatives of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Committee

Dr. Ali Al-Marri, the Chairman of the Committee of the NHRC claimed that a committee was formed to discuss sponsorship law where the NHRC role is confined to emphasizing international human rights standards and demanding the application of these standards. About amending the labor law, there should be criminalization for non-payment of salaries of workers, Al Marri said on the sidelines of the opening of the gym, which was held in the NHRC building to serve the NHRC employees. He added, There are number of initiatives by the 2022 FIFA World Cup Committee relating to workers with respect to wages, housing, working hours … etc.
These standards require time to be implemented, pointing out that the NHRC welcomes these positive steps taken by the State in the field of human rights to implement these initiatives adding that the state has a serious intention to implement these steps.
On the other hand, Al Marri explained that Celebrating the Sport Day reflects the state’s interest in sports, athletes and the right to health. We celebrated the sports Today and translated this celebration into action through launching the NHRC gym which includes the latest sports equipment for men and two for women at certain times of the day, either before or after work under the supervision of a specialist coach. The NHRC plays a major role in focusing on awareness programs to health in collaboration with several of state institutions and ministries.
It is worth mentioning that the Qatari player Khalfan Ibrahim Khalfan Al Khalfan, midfielder for Al Saad team, participated in the opening the NHRC gym and Dr. Ali Al-Marri gave him the NHRC Shield in recognition of his sporting and human rights related efforts.
