A forum on the "Right to Psychotherapy-Assessment & Investigation" organized by The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) opened at "The Doha Sharq Hotel" today(Tuesday, 4/9/2007). The two-day forum will be addressed by an elite group of Arab Psychiatrists who will highlight the current services available to mental patients in the Arab world in light of the potentialities within reach.
Research papers to be discussed today include one by Dr. Hassan al-Muhannadi of the Development Planning Council who will address the meeting on "Qatar-Present and Future"; another topic to be discussed is Current Psychiatric care in Qatar. In the meantime, Dr. Amina al-Hail, a Psychiatrist from the Ministry of Education in Qatar will present a paper on Adolescents Psychiatry.
Dr. Abdul Raziq al-Hamad, Consultant Psychiatry Professor of the College of Medicine, King Saud University will present a research study on International Standards for Psychological Services. At the same time, Dr. Tewfiq Dradka, Head of Psychiatry Department, University of sciences & Technology in Jordan will initiate discussions on Psychiatry Training & Research.
Topics to be discussed tomorrow, the second and final day of the Forum, include a research paper on the International Approach to Social Psychotherapy by Dr. Sabah Sadiq; for his part, Dr. Yasser al-Dabagh will present a study on Child Psychology, while Dr. Fahad al-Wahabi, Consultant Psychiatrist, King Saud University, will address the meeting on "Elderly Psychology".
The last session meanwhile will be devoted to: "Rights of mental patients and the Psychiatrist in light of the Mental Health Law- a study that will be presented by Dr. Ahmad Ukasha, Former Chairman of the World Psychiatry Association.
