Doha (al-Arab Daily: 9/6/2010): Her Excellency, Mariam al-Attiyah NHRC Secretary General has announced the names of student winners of the contest (Know Your Rights) that was launched by NHRC as part of a comprehensive schools’ Human Rights program. She expressed happiness with the students’ response and their excellent participation in the competitions organized in the course of the program.
Her Excellency stated that a ceremony in honour of the participants will take place tomorrow at Wajbah School in recognition of the school’s distinguished response to the program.
Ms Attiyah meanwhile stressed the importance of the program which she said would help create human rights-conscious generations aware of their commitment and duty to their rights and ready to defend and promote them.
The program, she added has its roots in NHRC strategy that aims at consolidating the culture and concepts of human rights.
Her Excellency went on to say that NHRC believes that a school curricular taking human rights at heart should naturally aim at consolidating the culture and concepts of human rights; and taking that into consideration, NHRC prepared this project (program) depending on the full cooperation of Qatari schools and student participation as should be facilitated through the formation of school Human Rights Groups.
