In a press statement, Ms. Maryam Al-Attiyah, Secretary-General of the Committee said, “We celebrate the Qatari Human Rights Day, which coincides with the date of the establishment of the Committee on November 11, 2002,”. Al-Attiyah noted that the decision to establish the Committee achieved a qualitative leap in the promotion and protection of human rights in Qatar, pointing out that although the culture of human rights was inherent in the Qatari people’s creed, traditions and customs, the establishment of the Committee was a catalyst for further protection and promotion of this important aspect. Al Attiyah added that the Committee celebrates the Qatari Day to remind of all the achievements of the State in this regard and to encourage society and institutions to do more to promote the human rights culture, which has become a real measure of the extent of civilization of countries and societies.
Al Attiyah also pointed out that the celebration of the Qatari Human Rights Day is exceptional this year, especially in light of the efforts exerted by the Committee to uncover the human rights violations resulting from the blockade imposed on the State of Qatar, and the great success achieved in this regard, along with the return and the great international gains and unlimited response to the issue of those affected by the blockade.
Al-Atiyyah said that this year’s celebration is marked by many useful activities in which we gave a special attention to the educational aspect. The celebration started at four o’clock with competitions that take a large part of it. The institutions participating in the ceremony also presented several activities related to the promotion of human rights culture.

He added that the celebration is an occasion to measure the progress of the Committee regionally and internationally.
Mr. Al Kaabi added, “Since its establishment, the National Human Rights Committee has made significant contributions in the field of human rights and has become very prominent in the Arab region. It has also forged partnerships with international organizations and organized several conferences that discussed the most important issues in the region and the role that national human rights institutions could play at time of crisis to reduce any humanitarian violations of peoples.” He explained that such international and regional moves have credited the National Human Rights Committee with the trust of the international community, to the extent that most international organizations, especially the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), depend on the reports of the Committee to know everything related to human rights issues in the region.
Mr. Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Head of Public Relations Unit, said: “The National Human Rights Committee has dedicated recreational activities for children with an educational nature on the principles of human rights.” He pointed out that many institutions and centers in Qatar participated in the celebration, such as: Qatar Social work, represented by Aman Center, Wefaq Center, Dreama Center, Best Buddies Center, Ehsan Center, Al-Shafallah Center and Nama Center, as well as the participation of: United Nations Training and Documentation Center, Qatar Charity Association, Traffic Department, Jeem Channel, Ministry of Health through the Blood Donation Unit, Qatar Voluntary Center, Mental Health Friends Association (WEYAK), the Productive Families Development Department, Noor Institute for the Blind, and Education Above-all Foundation).
