Cairo: Agencies: (06/21/2010): His Excellency NHRC chairman, Dr. Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri, who is also head of the Panel of Experts for Arab human rights emanating from the Standing Committee of the Arab human rights group has confirmed that a meeting was held in Cairo yesterday that discussed aspects of cooperation and coordination between the Arab human rights group and the NHRC. The meeting, he added, sought to develop guidelines and mechanisms for joint action between the NHRC and the panel in such a way that would facilitate an easy working relationship in terms of quality, speed and proficiency.
His Excellencies remarks were made in the wake of the said meeting, which was described by informed Arab League sources said was also attended by Ambassador Hesham Youssef, chief of the Office of the Arab League Secretary-General, Ibrahim Sheddi, the chairman of the Standing Committee of Arab human rights and Ilham Alshgeni, director of the Arab League Human Rights Department.
Meanwhile, The Standing Arab League Committee of Human Rights resumed the deliberations of its 29th session where they discussed topics on the agenda, especially regarding the implementation of the Arab plan to promote a culture of human rights that was adopted by the recent Arab summit in Sirte.
The Committee also reviewed the implementation of the Arab Human Rights Charter by Arab League member states which became binding since its approval its approval by seven Arab member states. Officials also said the meeting discussed an article related to facing Israel’s Human Rights violations in Arab occupied territories. Recommendations, there of, were to be tabled at the Arab foreign ministers in September, 2010
In other news, the Mayor of Paris- a senior leader of the French Socialist Party Bertrand Dulanuel, visiting Qatar at the head of a delegation that it intends to meet with His Excellency the NHRC president to discuss progress that has taken place in Qatar in the field of women rights.
