Doha: Qana: 20/10/2010: Qatar’s Islamic Cultural Centre (FANAR) and NHRC signed a contract 19th October 2010 to publish a book in Arabic and English on Human Rights in Islam. The contract was signed by NHRC secretary general, Her Excellency, Maryam Bint Abdallah al-Attiyah who was accompanied on the occasion by a delegation comprising: Abdallah al-Mahmoud, head of NHRC public relations unit and Mz Rania Fuad Jadallah and an NHRC legal advisor.
On the Fanar side, the contract was signed by Mr. Mohammad al-Ghamidy, Director of the Centre.
In his speech after signing the contract Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi welcomed the partnership between the two sides hoping for more fruitful; joint projects in the future. He also revealed a joint committee has been formed to prepare of the publication of the book comprising, representatives of FANAR: Abdallah Mohammad Mulla, Sheikh Abdel Salam Al Bassiouni and Mr. Mokhtar Mohamed. Dr. Tahir Bo-Jalal, international law expert represents NHRC.
In Her speech, Her Excellency Al-Attiyah described the book "Islam and Human Rights" as a valuable initiative and a serious step aimed at highlighting a genuine image of Islam to non-Arabs and non-Muslims through emphasizing texts in the Koran and in the Prophet’s Sunna, teachings and Hadith that underlined the importance of human rights over 1400 years ago.
