Doha: (Al-Arab: 13/06/2010): In the context of NHRC’s school program: "Know Your Rights", NHRC held an awards presentation ceremony, Thursday (10/6/2010) at Wajba Independent Preparatory School for Girls.
The objectives of the program can be summed up in stimulating active student participation in the field of human rights, at this stage of their school years.
The ceremony was attended by an NHRC delegation led by NHRC Secretary General Ms. Maryam bint Abdullah al-Attiyah, Jabber Huwail Al Marri, Director of Legal Affairs, Rania Fouad legal adviser to the Committee, Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, head of Media and Public Relations Unit Ibrahim al-Anzi of the Office of the Secretary-General, Maha al-Adhbah, Director of the Programs and Research Department and Fatima al-Manai, Media Researcher.
The ceremony began with speeches by a representative of the host school, Chancellor Rania Fouad of the NHRC, Mr. Jaber Al Marri and NHRC Director of the Legal Affairs in charge of the «Know your rights» program.
The ceremony included an NHRC documentary and schools play followed by the presentation of awards- souvenir Shields handed over to representatives of the 12 schools taking part in the contest. Gifts and souvenir shields were also presented.
Her Excellency, NHRC Secretary General then thanked the participants whose participation, she said, made the program a success.
Her Excellency stressed the strategic importance of the “Know Your Rights” being viewed by NHRC as central to its plan to promote Human Rights Culture amongst the young.
