Doha 🙁 NHRC 8/11/2009 🙂 NHRC marks Qatar’s National Day for Human Rights annually on the 11th of November. In this context NHRC is to coordinate a number of seminars and lectures aimed at promoting human rights.
His Excellency Dr. Ali bin al-Marri Smaikh – NHRC Chairman, has said in previous statements to the press that human rights in Qatar are maintained and protected thanks to the generous guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir and support the political leadership.
For his part, Mr. Abdullah Ali Al Mahmoud, head of NHRC Media and Public Relations Department told the Doha Arabic daily Al-Raya last October that NHRC will organize symposia over three days starting from November 8 to 10 November to mark the National Day of Human rights in Qatar. He added that government representatives will participate in these seminars which will address the issues related to human rights including the right to education in Qatar and the right to housing.
In his press statement, Dr. Al-Marri said that the keen interest of the State to protect human rights is evident in the establishment of several institutions including NHRC itself as well as the Human Rights Department within the Interior Ministry and the Human Rights Bureau at the foreign Ministry, The Qatari House for the Lodging and welfare and the Bureau for Combating Trafficking in humans..
In his remarks to the daily ‘al-Rayah" Mr. Mahmoud pointed out that and NHRC researcher will be posted at popular Doha Trade Centers such as Landmark and Flagio from 7 to 14 November to respond to queries from visitors on human rights.
On the other hand Mahmoud noted that NHRC will organize seminars Doha as well as elsewhere in the country in collaboration with the Department of public freedoms and human rights at Al Jazeeranet.
