Doha: (Agencies: 28/4/2008): A 3-day forum on promotion of human rights legislation in Qatar jointly organized by NHRC and the foreign ministry opened at the foreign ministry yesterday (Sun 27th April 2008).
The forum aims among other things at promoting social and national awareness about new technical terms in related literature and at training diplomats in the field so as to enable them to better grasp and interact with the sensitivities abroad in relation to human rights and freedom of opinion.
Another objective is the rehabilitation and development of personnel performance on follow-up mechanisms to promote human rights.
On the first day of the 3-day session, the forum addresses the International Bill of Human Rights and the international system for protecting human rights in terms of concerned committees, organizations and mechanisms.
On the second day, the forum will review procedures no. 1503 and 1235, the Criminal Court, the Constitution of Qatar and the promotion of human rights.
The third day will be devoted to reviewing compatibility of national legislation with human rights standards in terms of civil and political rights, and international standards in terms of social and cultural rights, and periodic reports addressed to specialized committees.
