Doha: (NHRC-10/7/2008): At a ceremony held at the Zubara Hall in the Millennium Hotel yesterday, Wednesday, 9/7/2008, NHRC staff bade farewell to His Excellency Dr. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, the founding president of the institution who had been appointed in the latest cabinet reshuffle on 1st July 2008 by HH the Emir SH Hamad Ben Khalifa al-Thani as cabinet minister of the newly-created International Cooperation Ministry.
The ceremony began with an introductory speech delivered by Mr. Hamad Saeed al-Hassan, Director of the Public Relations and Information Department, who spoke about the multi-pioneering virtues of His Excellency Dr. Khalid that had enabled him to place the institution in record time amongst the best known of its kind on the national, regional and international levels.
The gathering was then addressed by His Excellency NHRC Secretary General; Dr. Ali Bin Smaikh Al-Marri who expressed his personal thanks and appreciation as well as those of the entire NHRC family to Dr. Khalid and their gratitude for his fruitful efforts that qualitatively projected NHRC as a distinguished institution on all levels at home and abroad.
On behalf of NHRC members, Dr. Yusof Obaidan focused on the transparent and democratic style adopted by Dr. Khalid in running the affairs of the institution based on the popular Arab saying: "Freedom of expression, which usually entails conflict of ideas, does not negate amicability."
Language cross-check reader and poet, Mr. Mohammad Yeslem recited a poem in praise of Dr. Khalid in which he congratulated the staff of the new ministry, Dr. Khalid is to lead, because, according to the poet, Dr. Khalid will give prominence to the new ministry the same way he did with the then new NHRC.
On behalf of NHRC’s women employees, Adviser, Najwa Al-Urabi expressed her own appreciation and that of her women colleagues to Dr. Khalid for the support and encouragement they all received from him.
Finally, Dr. Khalid gave a solemn and spontaneous response thanking all present and expressing sincere appreciation for the support he received from all employees from the top of the employment ladder to the bottom, adding that it was this support to his efforts and those by other distinguished NHRC members that was the decisive factor in the success achieved by the Committee under his leadership.
He concluded that it was team work and the team spirit that has won the day during his tenure with NHRC-that, he added, is a win-win recipe anywhere anytime.
At the end of the ceremony, NHRC member, Dr. Yusof Obaidan presented Dr. Khalid with a souvenir gift; and after a delicious early lunch the attendees posed for a family photo.
