The regional workshop on “the protection of refugees in humanitarian crises” has come up with various recommendations on in promoting awareness about the rights of refugees through traditional media and means of social communication and organizing training courses and specialized workshops for the benefit of officials of various bodies involved in this subject.
The training course organized by the NHRC in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at the conclusion of the events, urged states to join the UN The 1951 Refugee Convention and 1967 Protocol and adopt a law on asylum.
The recommendations also included organizing a regional forum reflects the efforts of the he Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in support of Syrian refugees in their crisis.
The workshop was organized over two days, by the NHRC in cooperation with the Regional Representative of the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in the context of the efforts of the parties to consolidate, develop and integrate all aspects of cooperation and joint action, and activate the MOU concluded between them.
The workshop shed light on the rights of refugees in times of crisis, especially in the presence of a huge number of tragic disasters around the world. It also addressed the issue of protection in crises in camps and other gathering places for refugees and displaced persons and vulnerable groups and special needs of protection, humanitarian negotiations and registration as a means of protection and other related topics.
During the regional workshop, several working papers were presented on the role, functions, terms of reference and achievements of the NHRC, as well as working papers on international protection, refugee camps and other gathering places for refugees and displaced, protection of refugees in crisis situations, humanitarian negotiation, needs of refugees and vulnerable groups, definition of asylum and other related worksheets
