Writing for the Gulf Times from The Doha Sheraton where the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on promoting ‘Human rights culture in Qatari society’ organized by the Ministry of Interior in co-operation with the NHRC on Sunday 11th November 2007 was launched, a staff reporter quoted NHRC Secretary General H.E. Ali bin Simaikh al-Marri as urging more co-operation between the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and the authorities concerned if human rights were to become an integral part of the country’s culture.
Addressing the session, Dr. al-Marri said, “The NHRC is functioning in full transparency and is not partial to anyone. There are however incidents of claims and counter-claims by laborers and their employers. These are settled through mediation. As many as 1,200 Labour disputes were amicably settled through our mediation in 2006.
