Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Marri, Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee met in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia Mr. Khalid Bahah, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the Yemeni Republic, in the presence of Mr. Ezzedine Alasbahi, Minister of Human Rights of Yemen. Both sides discussed ways to cooperate on issues of common concern and mechanisms to support the Ministry of Human Rights of Yemen through activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides recently in Doha, providing technical advice in the areas of monitoring and documenting abuses in Yemen, and how to deal with files and international reports of human rights organizations, as well as strengthening capabilities of officials working in the ministry and providing support in the development of the best mechanisms to achieve transitional justice in Yemen. During the meeting, Bahah discussed the serious and grave violations of international humanitarian law by the Houthi militias targeting civilians and their property, bombing hospitals and medical staff and enlisting children, he stressed the need to prosecute all perpetrators of those crimes and bring them to national and international courts. The High Commissioner for Human Rights has called on the United Nations to establish a committee to investigate those violations. Bahah also talked about the tragic humanitarian situation of the Yemeni people. At the end of the meeting, the Vice-President Mr. Khalid Bahah, Prime Minister expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to the State of Qatar on the efforts made to support the just cause of the people of Yemen and alleviate their human suffering, he also expressed his gratitude to the National Human Rights Committee for the support and human rights efforts and relief to lift the injustice for the Yemeni people.
