Qatar won membership of the Arab Commission on Human Rights

Qatar won membership of the Arab Commission on Human Rights (Committee on the Charter) of the League of Arab   States; where Mr. Jaber Al Huwail, Director of the Department of Legal Affairs of the NHRC, was nominated as a member for 4 years. This came during the meeting of the Arab Commission on Human Rights at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo. Thenomination of the State of Qatar cmes due to its leading role in the Arab region and its continuing efforts to support the establishment of the human rights culture at the local and international levels. Al Huwail said in a press release: The State of Qatar has considerable experience in the Committee on the Charter where by Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, chairman of the NHRC headed this commission in the period from 2012 to 2014 during the meetings of the 138 session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level; Dr. Al Marri, during his term, made major efforts to develop the commission where the largest conference for the development of the human rights system in the Arab League has been organized and achieved its objectives clearly. Al Huwail said that he will benefit from the great experience of the NHRC  for a better representation of the State of Qatar in the humanitarian field. Al Huwail extended thanks and gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign affairs for its permanent interest and keenness for the international and regional presence of the state in all areas where it followed up on voting until the final moments; Al Huwail stated that the role of the Ministry of Foreign affairs enhances the state's interest in human culture and the need to disseminate and exchange positive experiences in the humanitarian field. The Arab Commission on Human Rights was established under the Arab Charter on Human Rights after its entry into force on 16 March 2008 to consider the reports of State parties on the measures taken for the implementation of the rights and freedoms set forth in the Charter. consists of seven members elected by secret ballot by states parties, to serve for a term of four years. The Committee consists of state nationals who are independent and impartial. The Commission is the first official commission in a separate contractual framework at the League of Arab States, its members are elected by secret ballot where State Parties ensure the necessary immunity for its members.
