The NHRC held a meeting at its headquarters with a delegation from the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children; the meeting provided a brief introduction about the work of the parties in the protection and promotion of human rights. Mr. Jaber Al Huwail, Director of the Legal Affairs at the NHRC gave a comprehensive definition of terms of reference of the NHRC, its objectives and legal nature, mechanism of to receiving complaints and petitions. Al Huwail gave a detailed explanation of the department of Legal Affairs at the NHRC, pointing out that the NHRC conducts visits to public and private institutions in order to stand on the humanitarian challenges they may face. He pointed out that the NHRC in the awareness and educational framework of its mission organizes workshops and international conferences that cover the issues of human rights. Al Huwail stressed that the NHRC is keen to cooperate with ministries and public and private institutions relevant to the subject or issues covered by these course. During the meeting, Al Huwail expressed the readiness of the NHRC to cooperate with Dubai Foundation for Women and Children in organizing workshops and training courses, either in Qatar or the United Arab Emirates and explained that the NHRC had organized training sessions with their counterparts in the GCC countries which welcome exchange of experiences and different practices . Mrs. Fatima Hussein Issa, Business Development Consultant at the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, discussed goals, nature of the administrative structure, and role of the Foundation in providing care and shelter services to women and children, according to international conventions on human rights and pointed out that the vision of the Foundation aspires to a society free of violence in Dubai; pointing out that the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children is the first non-profit home care institution authorized by the United Arab Emirates for women and children victims of domestic violence and child abuse and human trafficking. Mrs. Fatima Hussein Issa said the Foundation was established in July 2007 under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President of the United Arab Emirates, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
